Terms of Service
Last updated: 4 July 2026
Welcome to Relay. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Relay Server Hosting ("Relay", "we", "us"), which operates the Relay desktop app and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Who can use Relay
You must be at least 13 years old to use Relay (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher), and we ask you to confirm this when you sign up. If you're under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian agrees to these Terms on your behalf. You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account.
2. What Relay is
Relay lets small groups of friends run a shared Minecraft Java server that any member can host from their own computer. World data is stored in cloud storage so hosting can pass between members. Relay is a tool for trusted friend groups — it is not a public hosting platform, and we don't provide game servers ourselves.
Relay is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Mojang Studios or Microsoft. "Minecraft" is a trademark of Mojang Studios. You are responsible for owning a valid Minecraft license and for complying with Minecraft's own end-user license agreement and usage guidelines.
3. Your content
"Your Content" means the worlds, plugins, configuration, and other data you and your group upload or generate through Relay. You keep all rights you already have in Your Content. You grant us a limited licence to store, copy, and transmit Your Content solely to operate the Service for you (for example, syncing a world between hosts).
You're responsible for Your Content and for having the rights to use it — including any third-party plugins you upload. Don't upload anything you don't have the right to distribute.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Relay for anything illegal, or to store or share unlawful, infringing, or harmful content.
- Attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the Service or other users' data.
- Resell or commercially redistribute the Service without our written permission.
- Upload malware, or plugins designed to harm hosts' computers or other players.
- Abuse storage or hosting in a way that degrades the Service for others.
Because Relay servers are invite-only and run by group members, you and your group are responsible for moderating your own community and resolving disputes between members.
5. Accounts and email verification
Creating an account requires a valid email address, which you must verify before using Relay. We send a confirmation link when you sign up (or change your email) and use your email for account-related communication — verification, password resets, security, and important Service notices. You can delete your account at any time from the app's settings.
6. Plans, upgrades, and billing
Each account includes one free server with a free allowance (currently 2 GB of storage, 1 plugin or datapack, up to 5 concurrent players, a limited set of world types, and up to 20 hours of hosting per rolling 7-day week). You can upgrade a server for a recurring fee (currently $6 per month, per server) to raise its storage limit, allow more plugins and datapacks, raise the player cap (up to 200 players), remove the weekly hosting limit (unlimited hosting), and unlock all world types.
Auto-renewal. Paid upgrades are subscriptions that automatically renew each month at the then-current price, and your payment method is charged at the start of each billing period, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from the app (open the server's Upgrade tab); cancellation stops future renewals and takes effect at the end of the current paid period. The recurring price and billing frequency are shown to you at checkout before you pay.
When you cancel an upgrade, the server reverts to the free tier at the end of the paid period. If at that point the server exceeds the free limits (for example, it stores more than the free allowance or uses an upgrade-only world type), it simply can't be hosted until you bring it back within the free limits — by trimming its storage or plugins, or switching world type — or until you re-subscribe. Your world is always kept; we don't delete it because you cancelled.
You can also add extra servers: a one-time fee for an additional free-tier server (currently $5), or the monthly upgrade fee for one that starts upgraded (currently $6/month, with no setup fee). Some servers can run a Relay Plugin (for example, a Minigames or SkyBlock game mode). Adding or switching a Relay Plugin on a server costs a one-time fee per server (currently $2.99 each).
Immediate delivery & your right to cancel. Upgrades, extra servers, and Relay Plugins are digital products that we make available to you immediately after purchase. By completing a purchase you expressly ask us to begin providing it right away and you acknowledge that, once we have begun, you lose any statutory right to withdraw or "cool off" that would otherwise apply to digital content and services — for example, the 14-day right of withdrawal under EU and UK consumer law. We ask you to confirm this acknowledgement at checkout. Except where the law gives you a non-waivable right to a refund, fees are charged in advance and are non-refundable, including the one-time Relay Plugin fee once the plugin has been added and fees for partial billing periods. Prices, limits, and features may change; we'll give reasonable notice of material changes, and any charge is shown to you before you pay.
7. Copyright and takedowns
We respect intellectual-property rights and expect you to do the same. If you believe content stored or shared through Relay infringes your copyright, send a notice to our copyright agent at [email protected] (subject line "DMCA / Copyright") including: (a) your contact details; (b) identification of the copyrighted work; (c) identification of the material you say infringes and enough information for us to locate it; (d) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn't authorised; (e) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and you're authorised to act for the rights holder; and (f) your physical or electronic signature.
We will remove or disable access to infringing material and, in appropriate cases, terminate the accounts of repeat infringers. If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you may send a counter-notice to the same address. This process is intended to align with the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) safe-harbour framework and equivalent laws elsewhere.
8. Service availability
We work to keep Relay running but we don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. Hosting depends on group members' own computers and internet connections, which are outside our control. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service, and we'll try to give notice where practical.
9. Termination
You can stop using Relay and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or use the Service in a way that risks harm to others or to us. We'll try to give notice where reasonable, except where doing so isn't practical or would create a security or legal risk.
10. Deletion and 30-day recovery
When you delete a server, it is soft-deleted: its world data and settings are retained for 30 days, during which you can recover it. After 30 days, the server and its data are permanently purged and can't be restored.
When you delete your account, it is likewise soft-deleted: your servers, friends, and settings are retained for 30 days. You can recover your account within that window by contacting us at [email protected] before it expires. After 30 days, your account and all associated data are permanently removed and can't be restored, except where we must keep limited records for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. You use Relay at your own risk. We are not responsible for lost worlds or data, though we do our best to keep your data safe.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits, or game progress arising from your use of the Service. To the extent we are ever found liable, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or US $50. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law — including, for consumers, your mandatory statutory rights.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and you and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located there for any dispute — except that, if you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer-protection rules, or the right to bring proceedings in the courts, of the country where you live.
Before filing a formal claim, please contact us at [email protected] so we can try to resolve it informally; most issues can be sorted out quickly that way.
14. General
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest stay in effect. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service and replace any earlier agreements on the subject. Our failure to enforce a provision isn't a waiver of it. You may not transfer or assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them to an affiliate or successor (for example, in a merger or sale of the business). We're not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control. We'll send you notices by email to your verified address or in the app; you can send us notices at [email protected].
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Relay after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
